Leeds legend Eddie Gray firmly believes that two home games in the space of four days presents a real opportunity for United ahead of tonight’s match against Wigan.

Leeds’ three-game winning streak came to an end at Blackburn on Saturday in front of almost 7,000 travelling fans at Ewood Park.

But Brian McDermott’s side have won four homes game on the bounce and Gray is hoping that record can be extended to six after Saturday’s match against Watford.

He said: “I don’t see any reason why the home form can’t continue. We’ve got an opportunity now with the games that are coming up.

“We have a game on Wednesday and on Saturday against teams that are struggling themselves at the minute – two sides who were expected to be up there.”

First-team coach Graham Barrow and assistant manager Sandy Stewart will take charge of visitors Wigan tonight after Owen Coyle was sacked on Monday following a 3-1 defeat to Derby.

Coyle may have lost his job on the back of three home defeats but Gray says they have been impressive on the road.

“Whether it is good for us or bad for us we don’t know.

“It will be interesting to see how they play because, if you look at their form, they haven’t done to bad on the road. It’s their home form that has been poor.

“This week could be a good examination for us because we have a great opportunity, especially with the way things are going for both clubs and the fact our home form is so good.”
