Farsley AFC 2, Lancaster City 1
Farsley overcame their nemesis to stay in the thick of the battle for promotion from Evo-Stik League Division One North at the expense of great rivals Lancaster City.
The red rose outfit have had the beating of the white rose club in recent times but Neil Parsley’s men earned a fine win over them to stay in fourth place as Lancaster dropped out of the play-off zone, overtaken by Darlington.
Lancaster took the lead, Ryan Winder netting midway through the first half. But Farsley battled back and when a Danny Hull cross was adjudged to have been handled by a visiting defender, skipper Rob O’Brien netted from the spot.
Substitute Aiden Savory then scored the winner with a good strike five minutes from time.
Farsley boss Parsley said: “It was a great win. We showed resilience and character to get the three points.
“Lancaster have been our bogey team because they came to Throstle Nest the last two times in the league and won 3-1 and beat us by the same score at our place in the FA Cup this season.
“The chances were few and far between but Robbie put the penalty away after Danny’s ball flicked up and hit their lad and Aiden scored a good goal after great work from Ross Daly.
“There will only by one change for tomorrow night (Farsley travel to Harrogate Railway Athletic in the League Cup) as Matt Dempsey is unavailable due to work commitments, so Rob Etherington comes in.”
