Bradford City ended Nottingham Forest's unbeaten run with a superb 2-1 win, at Dennyfield, Thackley, to move closer to mid table security in the FA Premier League Northern Division.

City went in front in the 13th minute when skipper Bridie Hannon disposessed a defender and set up Becky Kendell to score. Sarah Danby made it 2-0 in the 39th minute and though Forest pulled one back City held on for the points.

Following in the footsteps of the reserve team, last week, City now make the long trip to the north east to face a Newcastle United side just three points ahead of them having played two games more while Forest go to Farsley based Leeds United who will be looking to improve on their 2-1 defeat at Wolves in their last game.

In the ever increasing financial pressures on clubs in the non-professional women's game there is more than just a place in the next round at stake when Huddersfield Town Ladies cross the Pennines to take on Chorley in the first round proper of the FA Womens Cup.

With £225 banked in prize money for their win in the last round there is now another £250 up for grabs - but it won't come easy.

A disappointing 3-1 Northern Combination defeat, at leaders Mossley Hill, has been a knock-back for Town's promotion hopes and with Chorley sitting one place above them in the table another tough game is in the offing.

Town reserves crashed 7-0 at Derby in the Premier League Reserve Division and they now face a visit from the division leaders Bradford City who maintained their lead over Nottingham Forest reserves with a 5-2 win at Newcastle United.

Delays on the journey north meant a late kick off and very little preparation for City but, after a difficult start, they romped home after the break to hang on to their top spot. On target for City were Abi Barker (2), Katy Woodcock (2), and Mel Garside-Wight.

In the North East Regional League, Premier Division Guiseley drew 2-2 at leaders Norton and Stockton Ancients and they will be hoping to improve on that when the two sides meet again at Guiseley. On target in that last game were Nadine Bates and Tanya Rich.

Southern Division Ossett Albion confidently pulled away from the relegation zone with a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Dimple Wells.

Rachel Barber, showing great vision, laid on a tap in for one time Bradford City stalwart Claire Popplewell to open the scoring for Albion and leading scorer Nicky Swift added a second as they moved up to seventh.

With games in hand on their closest rivals Albion player manager Nicky Davies, another ex City regular, is hoping to see her side continue their climb this week with a win at home to bottom club Westella and Willerby.

It was Cup day in the West Riding County League where Third Division Bradford City leaders had a superb 3-1 cup win over unbeaten Second Division leaders Hebden Royd, thanks to goals from Jess McPherson (2), and Laura Gadd, but it is back to league action this week when they entertain joint leaders Middleton Park.

Bradford Park Avenue went down 1-0 at Premier Division rivals Harrogate Railway in their cup tie despite a performance that deserved better. Had two penalty appeals gone their way it might have been a different story for Avenue who now have a visit from Brighouse Sporting in the league.

Ossett Town, bottom of the Premier, take on fellow strugglers Brayton in the league, at Ing Field, Dewsbury Rangers are at home to Rothwell Town in Division Two, and Norristhorpe are at Brighouse Sports reserves in Division Three.
