Some people don’t realise how lucky they are to be playing football and making a career from it.
Then you hear of them doing stupid things like match-fixing which just brings the sport into disrepute.
If these claims coming out are true, then those involved need to give their heads a bang against the wall. Whether it’s Conference, League Two or whatever, there can never be any excuse.
People do get greedy and clearly get tempted by the money. But try earning it the right way by enjoying your football and looking to improve yourself by playing in higher divisions.
Nobody can expect to get away with this. It always comes out in the wash and their reputation will be ruined forever.
They will never be allowed to play football again and will spend the rest of their lives labelled as cheats.
If I was involved in something like that, I couldn’t bring myself to look my family or friends in the eye. I’d feel I was letting everyone down.
We’ve had a lot of sickness around the club this week. I’ve been lucky but quite a few lads have been suffering.
Nick Allamby got hand sanitisers put in all round the training ground. But it doesn’t matter how often you wash, you can’t stop germs spreading.
We’re together all day, training, showering and eating and the changing rooms are quite small.
As soon as a couple of the lads get a bug, it quickly goes round.
This isn’t the first time it’s happened. We had the same at one stage last season and the training ground had to be shut down and properly vaccinated.
It didn’t help for the Notts County game that some of the lads were feeling ropey. Obviously, it was one we expected to win at home but given how people were feeling it was probably a good draw in the end.
Some games don’t go the way you want them to but we kept pushing as we always do. Who knows, that point could be a very important one if we can back it up with a win at Oldham on Sunday.
