The race is on for the local semi-pro hot-shots as Albion Sports’ Danny Facey and Eccleshill United striker Marcus Edwards go into the weekend looking to be the first to net 20 league goals.
Both forwards have been in prolific form recently and go into tomorrow's games with 19 to their names.
Edwards’ total was swelled by a five-goal haul from a 7-1 win the Eagles enjoyed at Rossington earlier this month.
Facey does not exactly deal in singles either as he has plundered two hat-tricks and a four-timer with the campaign not even halfway through yet.
However, he did miss out on a chance to be the first to reach the 20-goal milestone when Albion lost 1-0 at Athersley Recreation on Wednesday night.
Edwards boasts the better record so far as his full total is 26, seven of his goals coming in cup competitions, and he is the leading scorer in his division, being two clear of his closest rival.
But Facey could claim the high ground as his total of 21 has been scored in the division above.
Albion are in the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division, while the Eagles play their football in Division One. Coincidentally, they both head into the weekend in fifth place.
Not to be outdone by their local rivals, Brighouse Town also have a striker making the headlines.
Tom Matthews is joint second overall leading scorer, along with Facey, in the Premier Division but he is three league goals behind the Albion front man, so has plenty of work to do if he is to be first to the magical 20-mark tomorrow.
