Bradford City progressed to the West Riding County Women’s Cup quarter-finals as they overcame Guiseley 4-1 at Thackley FC.
It was a determined effort from the North East Regional League visitors as they held City to 1-1 at half-time, Michelle Walsh cancelling out Rachel Lee’s free-kick opener for the hosts.
City failed to get the better of outstanding Guiseley keeper Dani Maslin again until a three-goal burst in the last 17 minutes, when Becky Kendell, Charlotte Stuart and Caroline Omboyi sealed a last-eight tie at home to Leeds City Vixens.
The second round threw up few surprises, although struggling County League side Ossett Town could not have anticipated a quarter-final place when they went into the first-round draw.
Remarkably, an opening bye – followed by a walkover in round two after scheduled opponents Rothwell folded – has left them with the prospect of facing fellow West Riding League side Brighouse Sporting for a place in the last four.
In the remaining ties, to be played on Sunday, December 15, Wetherby Athletic are at home to Lepton Highlanders, while Wakefield overcame Brighouse Sports Reserves to clinch a home tie with Leeds United, who were 9-0 winners at Silsden.
Bradford City return to league action on Sunday with an FA Premier game at home to title-chasing Nottingham Forest, while Leeds United are at Wolves in the same division.
Huddersfield Town Ladies secured a place in the second round of the Sheffield & Hallamshire Cup by a walkover when Swinton Athletic were unable to raise a side.
It was a frustrating day for the Town side, who are challenging for promotion from the Northern Combination and did not need a blank week ahead of their trip to face leaders Mossley Hill.
The Liverpool-based Mossley side currently top the table on goal difference but, with only one point between them and fourth-placed Town, a keen contest is in prospect.
In the FA Women’s Premier League reserve section, Bradford City remain top of the Northern Division after a 1-1 draw with closest rivals Sheffield FC.
Sheffield began strongly and eventually took the lead just after the interval. But Molly Sharpe was upended in the box midway through the second half and Mel Garside-Wight levelled from the spot.
Caz Cropp headed against the bar in the closing stages but it ended all square and City – a point ahead of Sheffield, having played one game more – now face a long trip north to Newcastle United.
Huddersfield Town completed their first win of the season with a fine 6-1 result at Sheffield United Community in this division.
Debbie Hastings (3), Shauna Messenger (2) and Lauren Pritchard were the scorers in a welcome result for the hard-working Town side and next up is a trip to Derby County.
Southern Division side Ossett Albion put up a battling performance at Premier outfit Lepton Highlanders in the North East Regional League Cup but it finished 2-0 to the hosts.
It is back to the league programme this week, with Sheffield Wednesday the visitors to Dimple Wells.
It is cup day in the West Riding League as Bradford Park Avenue, without a game last week, go to Harrogate Railway, Norristhorpe – who drew 1-1 with Wetherby Athletic Reserves in their Division Three game – now face a tough trip to Tingley Athletic and Bradford City A could find it tough going at home to unbeaten Division Two leaders Hebden Royd.
Other ties include: Brayton Belles v Ilkley, Farsley v Keighley Oaks, Wortley v Silsden, Skipton v Hemsworth Miners Welfare.
