Morecambe 1, Bradford City 3
Bradford City notched an FA Youth Cup victory that was more comfortable than the weather tonight to book a third-round home date against Millwall.
All City’s goals on a cold and windy night at the Globe Arena came in the first half, Joe Brennan giving the Bantams a dream start by scoring in the fifth minute after Sam Wright’s shot had been blocked.
Brennan’s strike partner Oliver McBurnie made it 2-0 two minutes later after beating the offside trap to net his 18th of the season.
Skipper Jack Stockdill, who had set up McBurnie’s goal, almost got a third, but that honour fell to McBurnie in the 43rd minute after Brennan’s teasing cross had initially been blocked.
Tom Woods, who had missed Morecambe’s best chance of the first half, did pull one back in the 55th minute, but McBurnie almost got his hat-trick before Callum Chippendale rattled the bar with a free-kick.
CITY: Bentley, Jenkinson, Pollard, Heaton, King, Chippendale, Wright (X McBurnie 88), Stockdill, O McBurnie, Brennan, Mottley-Henry (Webb-Foster 81min). Subs (not used): Barker, Cissa, Devine.
