It was a good night for the local promotion-chasers in the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division as second-placed Thackley cut the gap on leaders Tadcaster Albion with a 5-2 home win over Glasshoughton Welfare and Brighouse Town moved up to third after a 3-1 victory.
The Dennyboys were a goal down but Matt Morgan and James Firth scored before the interval. Mike Garrod added a second-half brace and Matt Hall netted the fifth before Long Eaton United snatched a second.
Town’s Tom Matthews and Ernest Boafo scored the first-half goals at home against Glasshoughton. Ryan Hall made it 3-0 but a stoppage-time reply sullied their clean sheet.
Liversedge exited the NCE League Cup in the second round at Clayborn, beaten 5-3 in extra-time by visitors Dronfield. Gibril Bojang scored twice after Dominic Riorden had given Sedge an early lead but Dronfield added two goals in the second period of extra-time.
Tonight sees Albion Sports at home to Heanor Town in the NCE Premier while Eccleshill host Cleethorpes Town in the first round of the League Cup.
