Rossington Main 1 Eccleshill United 7

Marcus Edwards turned in a five-star display as the Eagles put seven past struggling Rossington Main.

The quick striker bagged himself a handful of goals as Eccleshill consolidated their fifth place in the table with a handsome away win.

Eagles boss Lee Duxbury was delighted with the goals but not happy that the home side hit a late consolation. The former Bantams midfielder said: “We were the better team and we scored a few – it could have been more really.

“I was a bit disappointed to concede though, that came about because two lads got a bit carried away. They thought that because we were 6-0 up they could start to showboat. You can’t and it was mentioned after the game.

“Marcus has a bit of pace about him and they couldn’t handle him. He could have had ten goals in that game, he had three one-on-one’s but his first touch was just too heavy and the chances got away.

“It was a good all-round performance though, as the scoreline suggests. Marcus and the two midfielders all put in man-of-the-match displays.”

An early Aaron Sanchez strike had given the Eagles the lead and a double from Edwards just before the break saw them 3-0 up at half-time. Edwards completed his hat-trick in the opening minute of the second half.

Jackson Patillo added Eccleshill’s fifth and Edwards was on target again before Scott Bibbi got the home side on the scoresheet but Edwards restored the Eagles’ six-goal cushion in the last minute.
