Gainsborough Trinity 4 Bradford Park Avenue 2
Two late goals from the home side when Park Avenue were just beginning to think of escaping with a point turned the game in favour of Gainsborough.
The Lincolnshire outfit put in a strong finish to bank the points from this Conference North clash despite being below their visitors in the table.
However, the result was only settled in the dying minutes.
Avenue had early opportunities with a Martin Drury shot that was well saved by Trinity keeper Phil Barnes and an Alex Davidson effort that went just wide.
They were left to rue those missed chances when Bradley Barraclough swept the home side into a 17th-minute lead.
But Bradford were level by the half-hour point. Paul Walker was a threat as always on the left flank and he beat Barnes on his near post with a well-placed shot after Davidson had picked him out with a crossfield pass.
Ten minutes before the interval, on-loan striker Adi Yussuf put the home side back in front. When the ball was not cleared properly following a goalmouth scramble, it dropped for Yussuf and he found the corner of the net.
Davidson had an early chance in the second half but he was thwarted by another good save from Barnes. However, Davidson was not to be denied his goal and in the 56th minute he lobbed Barnes after taking a Nathan Hotte through ball in his stride.
Both sides remained in the game throughout the second period but Trinity were the more positive and were rewarded for a bold substitution.
Assistant player-manager Darryl Stamp replaced the tiring Yussuf and the former Guiseley frontman had a huge impact.
Bradford keeper John Lamb tipped an 84th-minute shot over his bar but the home side went in front for the third time from the resulting corner. Tom Ward was at the back post to convert Ciaran Toner’s flag-kick.
Dan Clayton put the gloss on the win in the last minute with a curling shot.
Trinity leapt three places to 16th with the result while Avenue remain in eighth. They will be keen to get back in the play-off picture with a victory at home to Altrincham tomorrow night (7.45).
Next weekend sees them in FA Trophy third qualifying-round action at league rivals Harrogate Town.
