Eccleshill United pulled off another superb result when they beat a strong Farsley side in midweek.

Farsley came to the Rapid Solicitors Stadium for a West Riding County Cup tie as strong favourites. As an Evo-Stik League Division One North outfit, they are higher up the football pyramid than Lee Duxbury’s club.

But the former Bantams midfielder, who finished his playing career with the old Farsley Celtic when they were a Conference League club, masterminded yet another victory to lead his Eagles side into the quarter-finals.

Eccleshill football chairman Adrian Benson said: “It was a very good night for the club and a much-deserved win against a full-strength Farsley side.

“I don’t know how many changes they had from their league game on the previous Saturday but I knew all of the names on their team sheet. It was a very strong line-up – but Lee had our lads prepared and well organised.”

Marcus Edwards opened the scoring and Aaron Sanchez soon added a second goal but the visitors hit back to go into the break on level terms. Yet Eccleshill kept their belief and it paid off when Edwards netted twice inside the last ten minutes.

Benson said: “Marcus got another hat-trick but it was a team performance. I was so proud of all the players and I think we can all agree that Lee is doing a fantastic job of managing and coaching the lads.

“There is some strength of character in the squad as well because their heads didn’t drop when Farsley came back. In the second half we played really well and our passing game pulled them apart at times.

“I’m sure Lee will be focusing on the positives from that and hoping to build on it for our forthcoming league fixtures.”
