Guiseley 3, Ossett Town 0 (aet)
It took Guiseley an age to break down visitors Ossett Town in last night’s West Riding County Cup second-round tie but once they had the floodgates opened.
Spirited Ossett, from Evo-Stik League Division One North, took their Conference North hosts all the way in a goalless 90 minutes at Nethermoor.
But the Lions finally made the breakthrough when substitute Ryan Williams crossed from inside the area and Craig Hobson netted.
The opening goal came in the second period of extra time and it was soon followed by assistant player-manager Danny Boshell lashing in a second.
Hobson, who had been a constant threat to the Ossett defence all night, wrapped up the scoring when he doubled up late on.
Brighouse Town eased through to the next round with a 4-1 win over higher-ranked visitors Wakefield.
A second-half Ernest Boafo hat-trick saw the home side 4-0 up at one point.
Danny Naidole’s strike midway through the first half had given Town a slender lead to take into the break.
Boafo doubled their advantage three minutes after the interval and had completed his treble by the 73rd minute.
Annor Ferdinand hit Wakefield’s consolation nine minutes from time.
Liversedge bowed out after a 3-2 home loss to Selby Town, who are a division below them in the Northern Counties East League set-up.
Albion Sports were frustrated by a postponement due to a water-affected pitch at Barnoldswick Town and will have to make the journey next midweek.
There is a derby tie tonight as Eccleshill United host Farsley but although the Eagles have home advantage, their neighbours will be the favourites.
More than two divisions separate the clubs but both are full of confidence and pushing for promotion in their respective leagues.
Silsden are also in action this evening but in a North West Counties League fixture.
Three Premier Division points will be up for grabs when the Cobbydalers make the short trip across the Lancashire border to take on Colne for what is a traditionally-keen roses clash.
