Eccleshill boss Lee Duxbury has been delighted with the attitude, determination and quality his squad have shown throughout a tough spell of fixtures.
After five games without a win Duxbury’s men came back with a bang by winning 4-0 away from home last weekend.
Following their victory at Hemsworth, Duxbury said: “Of course it’s great to be back to wining ways but I haven’t been worried about the results because of the hard run of games we’ve had.
“In the last month we have played the top five in our division and been drawn against teams above us in the cups. We have also had a couple of key injuries and because of that we have had to change our system and tactics.
“We dominated both halves of the game at Hemsworth in difficult conditions and we could have won by more.”
The manager was pleased with the display in the FA Vase tie against neighbours Thackley, who are leading the top tier of the Northern Counties East League.
Duxbury said: “I’m not biased and if they had battered us I would say so. You have to be honest in this game because if you’re not you are only kidding yourself.
“I think the people of Thackley will agree that we played well, so well that we heard their manager giving them a bit of a roasting at half-time. We lost to a fluke goal from the halfway line but sometimes that happens in football.
“To play that well against a side top of the division above us brought its own type of satisfaction. There were pluses all round that day, the only minus was that we lost.
“There was only one game in that run (five without a win) that we didn’t deserve anything from and we played some really good football in the other games.”
