Yorkshire Amateur League Senior A division side Alwoodley were given a run for their money by Senior B visitors Farnley Sports before edging their Yorkshire Old Boys Shield first-round tie 3-2.

Alwoodley took a 2-0 lead inside 15 minutes but, with both sides down to ten men by the interval, Farnley drew level, only for the hosts to cash in on a goalkeeping error for the winner.

Dino Mulavdic (2) and Mark Hendstock outscored Adam Butterworth and Stuart Murrell, who netted direct from a corner.

Grangefield saw off East Riding Amateur League club AFC Preston 4-1 with goals from Matt Tomlinson (2), Grant Jackson and Tom Pickup.

The same score saw Gildersome Spurs progress at the expense of Morley Town AFC, with Ben Keedy (2), Matty Jackson and Steve Wales on target.

Bainbridge are still seeking their first win of the season after bowing out 3-2 at home to St Andrews. Irfan Khan and Rajik Ali pulled the hosts level from two goals down but the East Riding Amateur League clinched victory with a late penalty.

Two Mark Freeman goals helped steer Shire Academics past struggling St Bedes 4-0, while Old Batelians were swamped 7-0 by Stanningley as Karl Parkin scored twice and Steve Tierney added two penalties.

League action saw winless duo Calverley United and Collingham Juniors share eight goals and the points in the Senior B division. Calverley keeper Ben Waller equalised late on with a free-kick from 20 yards inside his own half.

Leeds Medics Reserves inflicted a first league defeat of the season on depleted hosts Farsley Celtic Juniors to move up to second place. It finished 3-1 as Colm Hicks’ double made all the difference.

In Division One, Gildersome Spurs Reserves recovered from two goals behind after half an hour to draw 2-2 at home to winless Huddersfield Amateur Reserves.

Gildersome Spurs Thirds have still to claim a point in Division Two this season, their latest reverse being 4-1 at home to Woodhouse Moor Methodists after taking the lead through Mark Suffield.

Tim Hill converted a last-minute penalty to earn Modernians Thirds a 1-1 Division Three draw at home to Heckmondwike GSOB, who had led from the 15th minute through David Laidlaw.
