Silsden 1, Formby 4 (after extra time)
Silsden exited a fourth knockout competition at the first time of asking this season as they were dumped out of the North West Counties League Cup in extra time.
As a Premier Division side, the Cobbydalers were exempt from the first round but suffered an ultimately heavy home defeat in the second.
Conquerors Formby are flying high in Division One and proved to be strong and fit as well as confident following their good start to the season.
Silsden actually took an early lead with a well-worked goal. The move was started by Kristian Hargreaves and he found Antony Lynch, who sent in a testing cross that Mikey Hall met on the run with a powerful header.
Formby were never out of what was shaping up to be a close tie and they got their equaliser just before the hour mark. Substitute Franny Smith’s through ball picked out John Prescott and he found the back of Ed Hall’s net.
This pair then proved to be the difference as they dominated extra time after the tie had reached 90 minutes at 1-1.
Three minutes into the first extra period a wayward pass was intercepted by Smith and he again picked out Prescott, who drew Hall off his line before slotting in.
Just two minutes later it was 3-1 after Smith netted a thumping shot – and it was all over in the 102nd minute when Prescott turned provider and Smith converted the cross.
