Frustrated Raffaele De Vita is braced for a hot reception when City face Wolves again after declaring: They weren’t anything special.

The Italian winger notched his first goal for the club but Kenny Jackett’s promotion hot favourites hit back to win 2-1 and spoil the day for Valley Parade’s largest crowd of the season.

It was a third defeat in four games for City, who were adamant they were robbed of a penalty when Kyel Reid was booked for diving after tripping over keeper Carl Ikeme.

De Vita incensed the away supporters by celebrating his strike right under their noses in front of the TL Dallas Stand. He was booed for the rest of the first half before getting subbed with a sore hamstring.

He said: “I was stupid but it was the heat of the moment and I got carried away. I think they will remind me next time I go there.

“But it did count for nothing, which is disappointing. Wolves are obviously very good but they are a League One team and they weren’t anything special.

“This club last year competed against much better teams in the cup. We didn’t have to fear anything and it’s just very frustrating that we didn’t get any points.

“We did well to put them under pressure in the second half. We gave everything and asked a lot of questions.

“We have lost again but we should only be disappointed about the first two. We didn’t play that well against Tranmere and Crawley was probably worse because we got battered a little bit.

“In the last two games, we gave everything. Sometimes it is not enough but there’s something you can work on.

“Wolves will be up there, which makes it even more frustrating. But we need to go again next week at Crewe and get ourselves fired up at a place with not so many fans.”

A rare blunder from Jon McLaughlin, diving over James Henry’s shot, allowed Wolves to equalise before defender Richard Stearman headed the winner.

Phil Parkinson refused to be too harsh on his keeper – but was fuming at referee Graham Salisbury for waving away City’s spot-kick claims over the Reid incident.

He said: “Their first goal was really poor from our point of view. It was a routine save from Jon.

“But you can’t be too critical of him because he’s pulled off some fantastic saves, none more so than at Preston last Tuesday.

“I can list a lot of big saves that he has made to keep us in games, so he’ll be disappointed with that.

“But then they got another goal quickly. We took our foot off the pedal slightly in that period and got punished heavily.

“I just thought the penalty was a terrible decision. It was clearer than ever on the DVD that the keeper took him out.

“If Reidy had stood up, he could have rolled the ball across the empty goal. So why would he have gone down?

“I did some homework on Kenny Jackett’s penalty takers before the game. I wonder if Kenny had bothered with us because we still haven’t had one.

“Look at the times we pin teams in, especially at home. The amount of pens we haven’t got is beyond a joke.”
