Albion boss Kulwinder Sandhu feels that last weekend’s derby defeat at home to Brighouse Town shows just how far his club have come – and also how much they still have to do.
After watching his side cut to ribbons at times in last Saturday’s 5-2 loss, Sandhu was in reflective mood.
“We are a small club that has come a long way, but we haven’t got the strength in depth or infrastructure to compete with the Brighouses of this world,” said the Albion manager.
“Before we were on the non-league ladder, as a Sunday club, we had a ground and reserve side and junior sides coming through. We are on a different level now and we are finding things out as we go along.
“A lot of the players we have were with us back then. We have brought in a lot more but we haven’t got a squad to compete at the top end of this division.
"We have a good starting line-up and can fill a bench but when we get a few injuries we don’t have the quality to bring in.
“That is not the fault of the players - as a club we can’t attract them. We have been in non-league three seasons that’s all. So players look at us and they are not sure about coming here.
“The players we have got have been very loyal to the club and have stuck with us, even though we have been moved around from Horsfall to Throstle Nest.
"We are really grateful to Farsley for putting us up but if we are to grow, having our own ground is key.
“We were high in the table at the start of the season but realistically we are looking to consolidate in this division.
"We only got promoted last May and you can’t run before you can walk but we will get there.”
