After a draw and a win in their last two matches, the last thing Guiseley’s player-manager Mark Bower wanted was another weekend off as he bids to get them in the right half of the Skrill North table.

The Lions followed up their 1-1 home draw against Histon with a coupon-busting’ 3-2 victory at promotion-chasing North Ferriby United.

Guiseley should have been at Worcester City on Saturday but they have an FA Cup fourth qualifying round home match against Lincoln City instead.

Bower said: “We wanted another game on Saturday and it is disappointing that we haven’t got one but we will get the lads sorted out and look to go again."

The unexpected win in East Yorkshire on Tuesday night lifted Guiseley six places up the table to 14th and Bower added: “If we can string a few more results together, we will start pushing towards the top half of the table and who knows from there?

“We have showed against one of the top teams that we are a match for anyone in this league.

“Now we have played Ferriby, we have played every single team in the top nine in the league.

“We have had a very, very difficult run of games but we have come through it and hopefully we can capitalise on what we have got coming up.”

Bower said of the result at Ferriby: “It was a thoroughly deserved victory.

“We had one or two bits of luck along the way in each box but we have deserved that after what we have taken in the stomach in the last couple of weeks.

“We have not got what we deserved in other games recently.

“We have probably played as well, if not better, and produced more chances and not won those games.

“But the lads defended magnificently in the second half and we took our chances and played some good football in patches.

“We can play better but it is nice to get that win and we are a couple of games unbeaten, which takes that monkey off our backs.”
