With Bolton Woods and Buttershsaw White Star receiving byes into next month's second round, the Bradford Sunday Alliance League's other two entrants from the Premier Division were involved in first-round action in the FA Sunday Cup yesterday.

West Bowling entertained Merseysiders Allerton at Horsfall Stadium and, despite sporting a new blue and white strip, they went down by the only goal of the match.

Both teams had early chances in the first half but the home goalkeeper was the busier of the two.

Bowling appeared to lack a cutting edge following their excellent approach work but throughout the first half the only real pressure on the Liverpool goalkeeper was having to come out to handle crosses.

The goal came in the 38th minute when a long through ball caught the home defence out and the visitors' Gary McEvitt lobbed the ball over onrushing keeper Ashley Onatario into the net.

The Bradford team did have a few chances in the second half, but, as in the first half, they failed to work the visiting goalkeeper too much.

Thornton United, meanwhile, made the reverse journey and played Seymours, going down 4-1, despite being level early in the second half.

Division 1B Red Lion almost caused the upset of the season when they led Buttershaw White Star on three occasions in their Bradford & District FA Sunday Senior Cup tie.

It took the top-flight team until extra time to see off their lower-division opponents 5-4.

In-form Cuedos Rangers set up a home tie with Thornton United after brushing aside Upper George Wibsey 4-1, skipper Chris Durn bagging a hat-trick, while Jack Hall got his first of the season with a mishit cross which beat the keeper.

The Bolton Woods v Victoria Rangers tie was an end-to-end thriller, with the Division One team beating their Premier Division opponents 4-3.

The half time score was 2-2 after Woods had been in front twice, with Damian Rushworth and David Geddes replying.

The lower-ranked team moved in front for the first time when Matty Holmes scored, only for the Premier team to equalise near the end, and, with extra-time looming, Rushworth lobbed the home team's goalkeeper to bag his second of the match.

There was a comfortable victory for Peel Park at Wrose Bull. Matty Hannan and Adam Turner each bagged  hat-tricks, including a long-range screamer from Turner.

Other goals came from Terry Hargreaves, Anthony Hannan and a first for 17-year-old Liam Worby.

Scorers for Lane Ends against Great Northern were Dean Walters (2), Liam Whitaker, Dale Howard and Liam Stratton as they cruised through to a third-round tie at Mill Lane.

In the Bradford & District FA Sunday Cup, Grass Greener United were beaten by Greenwood 3-2, despite strikes by Aaron Oddy and Rob Coulter.

Grass Greener A were also beaten by Salts' second string after the teams were locked together at 3-3, Salts forcing the winner in the extra period. Scorers for the losers were Gavin Hunt, Frankie MGeacy and Greg Cowman.

There was some Bradford Sunday Alliance League action, and Sandy Lane remain in pole position in the Premier Division after beating Relay 3-1. Stuart Cotterill hit a double for the leaders and Mathew Cavanagh also got on the scoresheet.

Dudley Hill Athletic beat Wyke Wanderers 4-1 in the only other Premier Division match.

Buttershaw Celtic beat White Eagles 3-0 in Division One, goals coming from Ben Hagen, Robert Rowntree and Dan O'Donnell, with his ninth of the season.

Bradford Phoenix found themselves behind to bottom club Ancient Foresters but a second strike by Andy McHugh in the last minute, to add to his first-half goal, rescued the leaders.

In Division 1A, Alexander beat Wrose Albion 6-3, with Craig Ricketts hitting four for the hosts, while in Division 2B, Second West came from four down at the interval to lose by the odd goal in seven against Buttershaw Rangers.

Kyle Dych (2) and Dave Wood scored in a terrific second-half comeback that just failed for the hosts.

Damian Melvyn hit a hat-trick for Park against Upper George in Division 3B, giving the hosts a 5-3 victory.
