Farsley jumped back into the Evo-Stik Division One North play-off places with a sound 3-0 win at lowly St Helens.

Matty James opened the scoring with the only goal of the first half when he converted Danny Hull’s 22nd-minute cross. Aiden Savory doubled the lead and Simeon Bambrook wrapped up the scoring late on.

Savory’s goal just after the hour came as the conditions worsened, with the game coming to a very soggy end.

Farsley boss Neil Parsley said: “It was a hard-earned win but fully deserved. Sim’s late goal gave the scoreline a true reflection. They got a good result up at Darlington last week so that puts it in perspective.

“There was a torrential downpour in the second half with thunder and lightning and the pitch started to hold water. But it helped our passing game come to the fore and it was a good three points.”
