Former Bradford City striker David Brown recently signed for Thackley and boosted an already impressive squad.

The Dennyboys are sitting proudly at the top of the Toolstation Northern Coun-ties East League Premier Division under new management duo Lee Clapham and Dave Morgan.

And Brown, who played under Stuart McCall for the Bantams and has also played for Guiseley and Park Avenue, has made a good start for his new side.

Club spokesman Mick Lodge said: “Lee and Dave have added to the squad they built up in the close season and they are very keen on the training so the players are very fit.

“They inherited a good group of players from Vinny (Brockie, who stepped down at the end of the last campaign) but they have added some quality.

“David has been all over and played at higher levels but he made his debut for us last weekend as a substitute and scored his first goal when he started in midweek.

“Goalkeeper Matt Convey has also come back. He has been with us a few weeks but he had to wait his turn to get a game because Ivan Willis was playing so well. Matt has played the last two games and it is developing into a very strong squad.”

The Dennyboys have mis-sed Nicky Matthews since his injury but the goals, and points, have kept coming.

Lodge added: “Nicky will be out a while yet. He went for a scan to determine the extent of the ligament damage in his ankle and they detected a fracture from an old injury, so he will need a lot of rest.

“But last week David Brown and Matt Mathers came on up front for Chris Davey and Mike Garrod, so there is no shortage of players who know where the net is.

“It says how strong our squad is when Mathers, Brown, Andy Tasker and Jimmy Scott were all on the bench. They would get into most sides in our league and Ivan hasn’t done anything wrong, he was just unfortunate to lose his place and is putting pressure on Matt to get it back.”
