League cup ties, sponsored by GOALS Soccer, took precedence in the latest round of Bradford Sunday Alliance League fixtures.

Buttershaw White Star and West Bowling - the two most likely to succeed in the Senior Cup - had convincing victories over fellow Premier Division teams.

Despite going a goal down early in the match, hosts White Star hit seven as they progressed to the next round over Bolton Woods.

Gareth Carney hit a brace and Mark Betts a hat-trick, and one by Terry Ryan, plus an own goal, put White Star through.

Holders West Bowling hit five against Relay a fortnight ago in the league and repeated the dose in the third round with strikes from Chris Hanney, Jamie Hall, Joe Jagger and a brace from Phil Brogan.

There were eight goals at Manningham but unfortunately visitors White Eagles hit five of them in the all-First Division clash.

Bradford Phoenix beat Lane Ends 6-2, first-half goals for the winners coming from Chris Saville and a superb Jack Halliday free-kick, and second-half efforts coming from Greg Weston, Stuart Matthews, Karl Bennett and Andy McHugh.

In the Intermediate Cup, Swaine Green put eight past Cuedos Rangers Reserves.

Simon McQuiston got the home team off the mark early after being played through by Elliott Holmes, and Craig Horsfall made it 2-0.

Horsfall scored again, running on to a through ball, and, from a corner, skipper Ahmed Mohammed  fired a sublime volley into the top left-hand corner.

Carl Priestley made it five with a superb volley into the roof of the net from a Holmes corner, and Lofty Edgley completed the first-half scoring with a long-range effort.

In the second half, McQuiston added another, and the tally was completed from the penalty spot by man of the match Horsfall.

Division 2A Sporting Pudsey knocked out Division 1A table-toppers Wyke in the first round, and followed this up with a 4-3 victory against Division 1B front-runners Ventus United.

The hosts started well and opened the scoring when captain Adam Shaw swung in a corner for Alex McNichol to head in at the near post and, despite plenty of United possession, made it 2-0 when Matthew Good headed home another Shaw corner.

Ventus clawed a goal back when a defensive mix-up between keeper Jack Irwin and Good allowed the visitors' striker to head into an empty net, and after the break they levelled with a free header from a free-kick.

Substitute striker Jamie McGougan put the home team in front and took advantage when United were reduced to ten men after a defender was dismissed for a late challenge, Josh Pierce volleying home from a Shaw corner. Ventus netted a late consolation from a goalkeeping error but it wasn't enough.

There was also some league action, and Thornton United continued their good form by defeating Wyke Wanderers 3-1 in the Premier Division.

Matt Beeney gave visitors Thornton the lead in the first half with a long-range effort but the home team replied at the start of the second half via Andy Hawker beofre Delroy White came on as a substitute to score twice for United.

In Division One, Allerton netted three without reply in the second half against visitors Ancient Foresters, with strikes from Jodie Crompton, Ben O'Melia and a screamer from Tion Richards. Man of the match was Chris Haigh.

Turf and George Hotel Reserves shared the points and six goals in Division 2A.

The hosts' goals were scored by Andy Thorpe with three close-range efforts, two from Matt Horsman crosses and the other a superb through ball from Ross Epton.

But George Hotel had led 2-0 early in the second half before needing a last-minute equaliser.

In Division 2B, there were eight goals in the Grass Greener United v Titans match, the home team getting five of them, helped by a perfect hat-trick - left foot, right foot and header - by Ben Crawley. Further goals came from Rob Coulter and James Small.

In the Bradford Vale v Dudley Hill Rangers Reserves match, the hosts continued their impressive form to deservedly sit top of Division 3A with goals from in-form front two Richard Ogden and Daniel Duckworth, plus Carl Gooding. Stand-in captain Alex Richardson was man of the match.
