Bradford City’s women travel to bottom club Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday hoping to extend their four-match unbeaten run and pull clear of the early-season relegation battle in the FA Women’s Premier League (North).
They led 2-1 in their last outing against Stoke City at Thackley through two Caroline Omboyi goals until the closing stages but the visitors levelled in the 88th minute following a free-kick.
Second-bottom Leeds United, without a game last week, go to Blackburn Rovers.
City’s reserves led 3-0 at half-time in their FA Reserve Division game at Sheffield FC, thanks to goals from Dominique Hoad (2) and Mel Garside Wight, before Mel Cropp made it 4-0 in the 65th minute to wrap up the win. City take on unbeaten Newcastle United at Rawdon Meadows this weekend.
There is still no joy for Huddersfield Town’s reserves in this division after they crashed 7-2 to Derby County, Shauna Messenger and Laura Porritt providing the consolation goals. They now entertain Sheffield FC still looking for a first victory.
Town’s first team have emerged as potential promotion contenders in the Northern Women’s Combination after a 6-0 win at home to Sheffield United Community left them just a point behind leaders Stockport County with a game in hand.
Emily Heckler led the way with a fine four-goal display, with Abbie Mullen and Debbie Hastings completing the scoring. Town now go to Cheadle Heath Nomads.
In the FA Women’s Cup second round qualifying, Ossett Albion had chances to put their losing run behind them but failed to make the most of them and paid the price as Hull side Malet Lambert hit three without reply to earn a trip to Liverpool Feds in the next round.
Other third-round qualifying games involving the region’s clubs see Huddersfield Town at home to Stockport County, Brighouse Town hosting City of Manchester and Wakefield at Tranmere Rovers.
For Albion, anchored to the foot of the table in the North East Regional League Division One North, a visit to leaders Wetherby Athletic this weekend will not fill them with confidence.
Bradford Park Avenue, beaten 5-2 at Pontrefract in the West Riding County League Premier Division, are at home to a Farsley side fresh from a victory over Keighley Oaks that put them top of the table.
Dewsbury Rangers had a battling 4-3 win at Castleford White Rose’s reserves in Division Two.
And Norristhorpe went top of the Division Three table with a superb 9-3 win at home to Park Avenue’s reserves, who now have a blank week after their game against injury-hit Crossley was postponed.
Ossett Town, also without a game, are back in Premier Division action as they go to Brighouse Sporting, while Dewsbury Rangers are at home to Brayton Belles’ reserves in Division Two.
