A small army of Northern PGA professionals, including Richard Masters from Baildon and Laurie Turner (American Golf Discount Centre), who used to be at Fardew, will aim to shine this week when they take on some of the sport's biggest names in the prestigious ISPS HANDA PGA Seniors' Championship.

Masters, Turner, Graeme Bell (Eaglescliffe Golf Club), Jeff Mathews (Oak Royal Golf & Country Club), Richard Green (Bramhall Golf Club), Brian Sharrock (BFS Trading Limited), John Harrison (Matfen Hall Hotel, Golf & Spa), Stephen McNally (De Vere Slaley Hall) and Andrew Murray (Lymm Golf Club) will be up against a host of star players at Cheshire’s De Vere Mottram Hall.

They former Ryder Cup-winning captains Sam Torrance and Ian Woosnam and numerous past Ryder Cup players in the £260,000 tournament

Bell and Sharrock will be making their debut in the event, which is the longest-running tournament on the European Senior Tour, after qualifying via the Senior PGA Professional Championship at Northants County this month.

Also booking their place in the field as one of the top 20 finishers are Masters, Green, Turner and Mathews.

It will be a sixth appearance for Masters and Green, while Turner and Mathews will be playing for the second time.

Harrison will be making his fourth appearance as will McNally, the latter securing a return after finishing tied fifth last year.

Cheshire-based Murray, who has promoted the tournament following its move to Mottram Hall, will be playing his sixth PGA Seniors' Championship.

The tournament, which will be played over the Dave Thomas-designed championship course, remains one of the flagship events on the senior circuit and is one of only two 72-hole championships on the Tour – the other being the Senior Open Championship.

Defending champion Paul Wesselingh returns, along with recent past winners Andrew Oldcorn, DJ Russell, Carl Mason and Gordon J Brand.

Previous champions include Open Championship winners Max Faulkner, Kel Nagle and Peter Thomson, while Christy O'Connor lifted the PGA Seniors title no less than six times.
