Jamie Foster column: Last week’s Magic Weekend defeat to Huddersfield was disappointing from a team point of view but for me it was even worse.
I was still feeling the effects of my shoulder injury and, in hindsight, I should not have played.
I am off to see the specialist, Lennard Funk, in Manchester on Monday and he will now advise on the best course of action.
Will I require surgery? I really don’t know yet. It depends what path they want to go down.
I felt good in training with the things I was doing leading up to last week’s game.
After the first couple of minutes when I touched the ball, I knew there was something wrong and it obviously affected me throughout the game.
I had a couple of missed tackles and my injury felt loose and very sore – any kind of impact on it didn’t do me any favours really.
I was nowhere near being even 90 to 95 per cent – I was more like 60 per cent.
I was really way off the mark last week and didn’t have the confidence to put it into contact.
It was really frustrating because I felt it had really started to improve. It just shows that training is nowhere near the intensity of a Super League game.
I genuinely didn’t think I was rushing it, I felt okay – but it has kind of backfired on me if anything.
I trained this week and gave myself a chance of playing this weekend because Franny was going to pick me and I was supposed to be starting.
I went to see the physio, Dan Ramsden, and, after having a think about it, said I’m not up to it.
I could have not said anything to Franny and played this weekend and got myself picked for the week after but what’s the point?
Obviously if you would have asked me at the start of the year what game I was looking forward to, then it was St Helens at Langtree Park.
If I’m being fully honest there’s absolutely no chance of playing next week against Saints.
