Luke Oliver has added to the Valley Parade feel-good factor by announcing: Count me in for League One.
The lofty centre half has been the forgotten man of City’s squad during their momentous double Wembley campaign.
Last season’s player of the year appeared just 17 times before rupturing his Achilles tendon at Burton in late October.
But after seven months of recuperation, Oliver is confident of declaring himself ready for duty when pre-season begins.
Oliver said: “I’ll be in the club over the summer to give myself the best opportunity to be fit. I plan to be ready for when the boys come back. I’m trying to build up the running slowly and we’re getting there.
“Playing in League One will be brilliant and I’m looking to be back from the start.
“It will be harder to get in the team but that’s what you want.”
Oliver, who recently spent a week of intense treatment at the FA’s training complex at St George’s Park, missed out on some matches that will go down in club history.
But he admitted that City’s record number of games actually helped him cope with the long stretch on the sidelines.
He said: “It was a good distraction if I’m honest. There’s been so much going on with the distractions of the cup and going to Wembley twice.
“I’ve had a real interest in what the team’s doing and not concentrating just on my own injury. It’s been an incredible season from the boys and what they’ve achieved has been unreal.
“It just rolls off your tongue, beating Arsenal, Aston Villa and going to Wembley for a cup final and then again in the play-offs. Saying it all in one sentence doesn’t do it justice.
“The boys won’t realise what they have achieved yet. It probably won’t sink in until they’ve finished football.”
