Steeton boss Roy Mason is calling for fan-power to help inspire his troops in their first West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division Cup final against Ovenden at Campion’s Manningham Mills ground tomorrow (7pm).

The Chevrons have had a season to remember, finishing in the top three and lifting the Keighley Cup.

And after their dramatic 1-0 extra-time semi-final win over Golcar, Mason is looking to cap off the campaign with more cup success – with plenty of supporters hopefully helping them go that extra mile.

“I want to see over 100 of our fans there to cheer on the lads with it being our first-ever final,” said Mason, whose side concluded their league season with a 5-2 win at home to Marsden on Monday night.

“It was such a tough game to get to this stage against Golcar but the boys showed patience and character to get through in the end.

“To have been up there is a massive achievement for us this season with such a small squad of just 16 players.

“We’ve got such a well-run club at all levels. It really is like a professional standard, which is really important to us and is something we’re proud of.

“We also play a great brand of football and all the support we can get will help drive us going forward.”

But despite guiding them to their first League Cup final, Mason knows that the job is not done yet against an Ovenden outfit who beat his side 3-0 earlier in the month.

“Hopefully we can finish things off in the final but playing Ovenden won’t be easy,” he said.

“When we faced them the other week, all the boys admitted that it was our worst performance of the season and we will certainly be looking to put that right.”
