Billy Foster is set to make his long-awaited comeback tomorrow when he caddies for Thomas Bjorn at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The Keighley-born bagman has been sidelined for more than 12 months after suffering serious knee ligament damage.

That led to him splitting with Lee Westwood and Foster is now planning to work for several different players while he proves his fitness over the coming months.

The Bingley St Ives member said: “I’m just looking to work my way back gradually. I don’t want to be flying off to America or China yet before I’ve proved my fitness.

“I’m picking and choosing my events and have some work lined up with a few different lads.”

Providing everything goes to plan, Foster said he would be caddying for Bjorn at the BMW International Open in Germany next month and is booked with other players for the French and Irish Opens.

Following today’s practice round, Foster said: “I’ve forgotten how heavy that bag is! My back’s hurting a bit but the good thing is my knee feels fine.”

The popular caddy added: “It’s certainly nice to be back and I’ve had a nice reception from all the lads.

“Coming back at Wentworth has always been a target for me and it’s the perfect location to do it.”

Foster was on the bag for Bjorn back in 2003 when the Dane lost the Open title at Sandwich after being three shots ahead with four holes to play.
