The league season ended with a glut of derby fixtures between Guiseley and FC Halifax Town but tomorrow night’s clash between the rivals could be the last for a while.
Steve Kittrick’s Lions and Neil Aspin’s Shaymen go head to head at Valley Parade in the West Riding County Cup final – and Halifax will no doubt have their tails up after winning promotion to the Blue Square Bet Premier last Sunday.
They will know all about each other’s style of play after four recent meetings. The Lions hosted the Shaymen in Blue Square Bet North on April 3 and made the short journey to the Shay a fortnight later before the clubs were also thrown together in the two-legged play-off semi-finals.
Three of those meetings ended all square at 1-1 but Halifax won the all-important second leg at Nethermoor to progress to the play-off final.
Aspin’s men will be buoyant after winning that 1-0 thanks to a second-half strike from Lee Gregory, despite being away to Brackley Town on Sunday.
Kittrick’s difficult job has been keeping his squad match fit as the Lions have not played since that 2-0 defeat to Halifax a week last Saturday.
But the motivation will be there as the Lions will be seeking revenge over their local rivals and looking to win the cup for a third time in succession.
A bumper crowd of 2,424 watched the last clash at Nethermoor and a similar sized attendance at the Bantams’ home tomorrow would create quite an atmosphere for the West Riding County FA’s showpiece finale to the 2012-13 season.
