The Dennyboys’ season ended with a trophy and that was a fitting end to Vince Brockie’s short stint in the hot-seat.
Brockie had two seasons in charge and landed the Northern Counties East League Cup in both campaigns.
He departed in a blaze of glory last Monday when the Dennyboys came from a goal down to beat Louth Town 3-1 in the final at Staveley MW’s ground.
Former club treasurer Steve Paley said: “It was a good climax to Vinnie’s time with us and it was nice to see him end with another cup. It’s funny, we waited 37 years for a trophy and then two come along in consecutive years.”
The cup win was aided by the return of two influential players. Both men finished the season playing in higher leagues but were still registered and had played several league games for Thackley throughout the campaign.
Paley explained: “Ross Daly and Brice Tiani both came back to help us out in the final.
“Ross started and Brice came on for him for the last 20 minutes or so. It was Brice’s first game for us since he moved to Farsley but Ross played a couple of games for us near the turn of the year on loan from Avenue.
“But the plaudits go to all the players and of course Vinnie.
“I think we were the better side. It took us a long time to break Louth down but they sat back after they scored very early on. For the last 60 minutes we were pretty much on top and we managed to turn the game with the goals.”
