Kyel Reid is ready to pen the final chapter of City’s storybook campaign at Wembley.
The flying winger was a frustrated substitute at the Capital One Cup final and never came off the bench as they were hammered 5-0 by Swansea.
But he believes the script is already written for the play-off showdown with Northampton – and he intends to play a leading role.
Reid said: “It’s been a fairytale season and there has got to be a happy ending. That will close the book.
“We’re going back to Wembley and this time will be very different. I’ve got a good feeling about how things have gone for us this season.
“We don’t do things the easy way but come the end of the play-off final, I know we’ll be going up to the next league.”
Reid was still nursing his way back from injury during the cup epics against Arsenal and Aston Villa. So being involved in the second-leg fightback at Burton last weekend was extra special.
He added: “It was an amazing feeling to be among it. Obviously I missed out on the last occasion we got to Wembley. The spirit the boys showed to go out there and get back in the tie was amazing.
“We’ve played 63 games this season and the boys are still digging in and going right to the end. Now we’ve achieved another occasion at Wembley and we can’t wait to get out there.”
City’s confidence going into next week’s showpiece is high after bouncing back to beat the side with the best home record in the Football League.
But Phil Parkinson admits they cannot afford another slow start against the Cobblers.
The City chief said: “It took us 45 minutes to get into the play-offs and we can’t afford that to happen. I’m sure it won’t.
“The first half last Thursday was another lesson for us that if you’re not really on your game, you’ll get punished.
“That’s what happened in the first leg but we rectified it and turned it round. But in the big game next week, we’ve got to be right on it from the first whistle and play at our very best.”
Tickets for Wembley are on general sale from today and fans can purchase up to nine at a time.
