Bradford City, like their male counterparts, are creeping ever closer to promotion.
The Northern Combination club are currently in third place but, having beaten leaders Chorley 4-1 at Thackley in midweek, they are in bouyant mood ahead of tomorrow’s crucial return game at Chorley.
Jodie Redgrave opened the scoring for City from the spot and, after turning round 1-1 at half-time, Jodie Litherland, Caroline Omboyi, her tenth of the season, and one from skipper Bridie Hannon secured victory.
It was a welcome result after the frustrations of the previous weekend when they travelled to Leeds City Vixens, only to find the kick-off had been brought forward an hour and the match was on Astro turf. City appeared unaware of either change and, without appropriate footwear, the match was not played.
Another win over Chorley would leave City just two points off the top with three games in hand but Durham and Cestra stay in the mix after a 3-0 win at Wakefield in midweek saw them move just a point behind the leaders and still with a game in hand.
City are back in action on Wednesday when they are at bottom club Wakefield while Huddersfield Town are at home to Cheadle Heath hoping to improve on last week’s defeat at home to Chorley.
In the North East Regional League Premier Division Guiseley, with three games to play, go to mid-table rivals Scunthorpe hoping to finish the season in style.
Jess McPherson hit five goals and Anna Mitchell was also on target as Bradford City under-18s won 6-4 at Brighouse in their final game of the season.
The result keeps City top of the league but the Championship will probably be decided by a play-off against Wigton Moor if they win their final game.
Bradford Park Avenue under-18s signed off from junior football in style as they won 8-3 at Wetherby.
Despite the wind, a solid performance from Avenue saw Sarah Opie score a brace and Sophie Mitchell notch up a double hat-trick.
