Bradford Dudley Hill left it late to post a 32-26 victory over Division One basement side Eccles after an almighty National Conference tussle at Parry Lane.
Hill entered the fray looking to complete the double against the Manchester outfit, who are still without a point, but any thoughts of an easy ride were soon put to flight when the visitors went 6-0 up.
A try by packman Steve Lamond was converted by hooker Nathan Kitson to restore parity but Eccles continued on their merry way and only a converted try from Hill second-row forward Kenny Smith restricted their progress to an 18-12 interval advantage.
Hill wingman Bolu Fagboran dived over from acting half to reduce the deficit but the hosts left it until the final quarter to finally put their stamp on the game.
A trio of tries from Cameron Gibson, Adam Jefferson and Neil Wall, together with two Kitson extras, ensured a nervy ending went in Hill’s favour.
