Three goals in the opening 20 minutes set Gildersome Spurs on the way to an impressive 4-0 win at Trinity & All Saints as they stepped up their push for the Yorkshire Amateur League title.
The result lifted Spurs to within six points of Senior A leaders Leeds Medics & Dentists, who had to settle for a 1-1 draw at second-placed Alwoodley – and Gildersome have three matches in hand.
Tom Goodwill opened the scoring, Matty Jackson added the second and the third came via yet another penalty for section top scorer Steve Wales, who now has 23 goals for the campaign. Skipper Lee Thrush completed the tally after the break.
St Bedes’ plummet towards the Senior B drop zone continued with a 3-2 home defeat to Wigton Moor, their ninth match without a win.
Saints managed to claw back a 2-0 interval deficit with goals in the last ten minutes from Jonathan Hicks and Gary Litvinov, only for Wigton to win it with the last kick of the match by substitute Niall Temple.
Second-placed Farsley Celtic Juniors still have the outcome of the Division One title race in the own hands after a 2-0 win at AFC Heckmondwike, who are fourth.
Andy Cooper and James Kasher made it five consecutive wins without conceding a goal for Farsley, who are already promoted but can nick top spot from Farnley Sports if they win their game in hand.
