The ladies' section at Skipton Golf Club received a timely boost following the success of an ‘open- doors’ event to encourage potential new girl and lady golfers to become members.
Lady Captain Ros Moloney said that several new members, both juniors and seniors, among them first-time and returning players, joined up on the night, with many other expressions of interest also registered.
Lady members gave visitors a tour of the clubhouse and explained how a successful local golf club operates.
They also had the opportunity to get into the swing of things by trying their hands at indoor golf games, as well as being offered a free group taster session on the practice ground with Skipton Golf Club professional Peter Robinson, for which there were 17 takers.
“It went really well. Around 30 girls and ladies of all ages paid us a visit and there was a great deal of interest in the various packages we now have available for golfers who are either completely new to the game or are returning after a break,” said Ros.
Jessica Cooper, of Hellifield, was the first new lady member to sign on.
“I have only played with friends in the past and wanted to join a golf club proper,” she said.
Jane Butterworth, of Ilkley, also said she was looking to become a member. “I’m a total novice,” she admitted.
