John Hendrie column: I don’t think City fans should have any cause for concern over Phil Parkinson’s contract.

I’ve not heard one negative word from Phil or the board to suggest he’s not going to get it done.

It’s only disruptive if people let it get in the way but I don’t think that’s been the case.

The signals coming out from Phil and the board are that they only want to focus on the football. That’s the key.

The games cannot come second to what is going on with Phil Parkinson. Not one person is bigger than the club so everyone has got to remain focused on the one job of doing well in the play-offs.

It’s not as if you’re hearing any negative vibes. There are probably just different clauses in there that need to be agreed.

And even if Phil signs his contract, he will still be linked with other jobs. You see managers moving on whether they are under contract or not.

You can leave things to the end of the season. I got in that situation when I was playing and I let my contract run down so I could make up my mind in the summer.

That doesn’t mean you’re not going to sign. It’s like David Moyes at Everton – everyone seems to assume that’s he’s leaving but it’s not necessarily so.

There is so much going on with City at the moment and the priority has to be what’s happening on the field.

They have got a great chance to finally get out of this division after all these years and that will be the focus of everybody above anything else.
