Ovenden West Riding took advantage of Premier Division leaders Steeton’s cup diversion to close the gap at the West Riding County Amateur League summit.

Steeton are now just three points clear, having played two games more, after Ovenden won 3-1 at home to Lepton Highlanders.

Carlton Pownall scored twice to add to Damian Randall’s opener, with Liam Coughlin replying for second-bottom Lepton.

Salts held on to fourth place with a 2-1 win at Storthes Hall as Tom Hickey and Kyle Berry struck after Gavin Armitage had given the hosts the lead.

Tyersal climbed above Storthes Hall to fifth as Terry Ryan, Damian Rushworth and Aaron Heywood supplied the goals in their 3-0 success at mid-table Kirkburton.

Campion slipped closer to the lower reaches of the table as they exchanged places with opponents Hall Green United, who won 3-2.

Mathew Marsden, Clinton Firth and Jamie Miller were on target for the Wakefield side, while Mamadouch Barry and Nathan Woodward netted for Campion.

The Division One title race is effectively a race between three sides, although third-placed Huddersfield YMCA remain favourites as they have several games in hand.

Wakefield City, with three games to play, currently lead the way after beating Wibsey twice in four days. They followed up a 3-2 away win on Wednesday night with a 4-1 success in the return fixture.

Brad Kilner’s double was backed up by strikes from Ryan Southward and Ryan Baxter, with Michael Hall the Wibsey scorer.

Hunsworth are second, two points adrift of Wakefield with a match in hand, after beating Halifax Irish 3-2 thanks to goals by Ryan Templeton, Stuart McCallum and Dale Wright.

Huddersfield YMCA are four points adrift of top spot but would surge clear if they won their games in hand.

They maintained their momentum with a 1-0 home win over Ventus-Yeadon Celtic as Teboho M’Pala struck a second-half winner.

Five wins in their last six games has seen Dudley Hill Rangers power into contention for promotion from Division Two.

They are now up to fourth place after a Chris Gibbons hat-trick earned a 3-0 victory at Tyersal Reserves.

Salts Reserves are also in the mix and remained third after goals from Richard Magson, Mat Bailey, Andy Sadowski and Eddie Bennett earned a 4-0 home win over Lower Hopton Reserves.

West Horton climbed into the top half of the table with a 2-1 win at second-bottom Littletown Reserves.
