Vince Brockie moved a step nearer to bowing out on a high when Thackley crushed Premier Division leaders Scarborough Athletic in midweek to reach the Northern Counties East League Cup semi-finals.

Brockie has stated his intention to vacate the Dennyboys hot-seat when the season comes to an end.

The former Leeds United midfielder is a coach with Barnsley and has an increased workload with their Academy.

Thackley are holders of the League Cup and it would melt the tough Scot’s heart if he could leave the club in celebratory mood after defending the trophy.

Brockie said: “The cup run has been great and, as our league form has dipped and we have slipped out of the top eight, it has kept our season going.

“I thought it would be too tough this season because of the draw we had. Scarborough are a very good side and they beat us quite easily in both league games.

“But we did knock them out of the FA Vase, and that was at our place so we did have some hope when they came to us in the quarter-finals.”

The Seadogs put the Dennyboys to the sword in their two Premier Division clashes, winning 4-1 at home in the second game of the season and then 5-1 at Dennyfield back in January.

But Thackley got some pride back with a 3-2 home victory in the first round of the Vase and completed their revenge with Tuesday’s 6-0 cup win.

Brockie said: “That means we have another top side in Worksop Parramore in the semi-finals but at least we are at home again.

"It will be another tough tie but I know the players will be ready for it and up for it.”

Thackley host Worksop in the last four on Thursday, May 2, and the winners will face Louth Town following their win over Nostell MW on penalties in last night’s other semi-final.

The final is on Bank Holiday Monday (May 6) at Staveley MW’s ground.
