City will get tough with any pitch invaders today – after banning five fans who ran on against Rotherham.

The club must also report to the Football Association over claims that missiles were thrown at Millers boss Steve Evans.

The incidents on Tuesday night followed unsavoury scenes at Chesterfield last week and City are determined to nip any trouble in the bud.

Facilities manager David Dowse said: “It’s something we are watching. It’s clear that our success has brought back one or two people who don’t realise how we behave now at Bradford City.

“We’ve made great strides in recent years with the behaviour of fans and the stewarding approach, which is about us trying to work together to make sure there are no issues and everyone is safe.

“A few have returned to the fold after our recent success who haven’t been part of that and therefore we need to deal with it.

“Tuesday went very well, considering it was the biggest crowd of the season and there was so much at stake, but there are a few lessons to learn.”

The supporters who came on the pitch at the final whistle were slapped with banning orders preventing them from attending Valley Parade until December 31.

Two Rotherham fans also ran on when the Millers scored. One was arrested and the other ejected from the ground.

Dowse said: “That’s the line we will take. Running on the pitch is a criminal offence.”

The FA have asked for details after Evans was targeted with a couple of objects thrown from the crowd. There have been similar incidents in the past and City could be hit with a hefty fine if it starts happening again on a regular basis.

Dowse warned: “We haven’t been on the FA’s radar for some time and we don’t want that problem to come back. Whatever the provocation, it’s not appropriate to throw things on to the football field.”

City’s players will carry out their traditional lap of appreciation after this afternoon’s final league home game against Burton, providing there is no pitch invasion.

There were problems on the final day of the 2010 season against Northampton but the last two have passed without incident.

Dowse said: “The supporters have been brilliant and obviously that is something we want to continue. The players and management want to say thanks to the fans but they can only do that if the pitch remains clear.”
