Mark Lawn is urging City to show Rotherham’s controversial boss Steve Evans who is League Two’s biggest noise in Yorkshire.
Evans brings the Millers to Valley Parade tonight for a much-anticipated promotion showdown.
It will be the first time he has been back at City since the infamous Crawley game last season which finished in a mass brawl in the centre circle.
The Scot was later found guilty of “using abusive and insulting words and behaviour, including a reference to gender” to a female member of the home staff that night around the dressing room area. A Football Association hearing hit him with a six-match ban and £3,000 fine.
Joint-chairman Lawn said: “I expect it to be a highly-charged atmosphere and I think that’s great. It’s a good thing for the game. We want our fans being vocal and getting behind the side.
"I don’t know about slagging him off, that’s up to them. I don’t think that’s right.
“We just lower ourselves to his standard if we start doing that.
“For me, we get behind the side and let our football do the talking and hopefully beat them.
“What we’ve got to do is find out who’ve got the biggest mouths in Yorkshire. Let’s hope it’s the Bradford City fans.”
Evans has already spiced up his return by describing City’s stadium as “old and dilapidated” and saying that Rotherham’s new home is the place where all League Two sides want to visit now, not Bradford.
Lawn said: “His comments are strange. Rotherham chairman Tony Stewart always says the one place he really looks forward to coming to is us.
“He must like our stadium even if Mr Evans doesn’t.
“I’m sure it’s just a little bit of gamesmanship. You look at Sir Alex Ferguson and while I’m not putting him in that category, maybe he’s playing the game to try to unsettle our players and our fans and get them going.
“I just say, let’s beat them at football.”
The occasion is huge for both sides. City are looking to cement their place in the play-offs while Rotherham will move into the third automatic promotion spot with a victory.
City will step up security for the game, which is expected to topple their biggest league crowd of the season – 11,883 against York in October.
Rotherham could bring up to 2,000 fans and have been given the TL Dallas Stand as well as two blocks of Midland Road.
Lawn added: “There will be (security) plans because it’s going to be a highly-charged game, not just because it’s Evans.
“It’s a local derby. If Fred Bloggs was their manager, we would be looking at security for him.
“They are going to bring a lot of fans. We’re both fighting for these play-offs positions and I think Rotherham have got a chance of going up in third place.”
Skipper Gary Jones admits City are desperate to set the record straight after their 4-0 mauling at the New York Stadium at the start of the season.
After seeing 3,000 fans roar them on at Chesterfield, Jones anticipates another ear-splitting occasion.
He said: “We know the crowd will get right behind us. There’s been a lot of history between Steve Evans and the club and I’m sure it will be feisty to say the least.
“We didn’t turn up at Rotherham earlier this season. It was a really bad day at the office for us.
“But this is the chance to get our own back and if we play anything like we can, then I’m sure we can get the three points. Play well and we can beat anyone.”
