The Dennyboys will be searching for a new manager in the close season after current boss Vince Brockie confirmed he will be stepping down at the end of the season.

Former Leeds United and Doncaster Rovers midfielder Brockie is a coach with Barnsley and that work is encroaching on the time he wanted to dedicate to his role with Thackley.

Brockie said: “It’s a decision I have had to make because I am having less and less time to commit to the club.

“I really wanted to do both and have tried but the coaching at Barnsley is just taking up too much time.

“I’ve loved my time here and will be sorry to go but I can’t work around it any longer.”

Thackley were up with the promotion chasers last season and looked as though they would again be at the top end of the Baris Northern Counties East Premier Division table.

But after a good first half to the season, their campaign has tailed off and they are hovering around the mid-table point.

Brockie works incredibly hard and demands high standards, so their league position is a disappointment to him. He feels the club will benefit from a change of manager.

“We used to be one of the fittest teams in the division,” added Brockie. “I had them all in for training and they were pounding up and down that hill at the back of the goal for fun.

“I just haven’t been able to get here to work them this season so they haven’t trained properly for months. You can get away with it towards the end of the season, when you are playing two or three hard games a week but the problems with the bad weather have made things worse.

“We have had two games, then three postponed, then another one, then off again. It’s been impossible for them to keep match fit or get any momentum going.

“That’s when training really does need to be done.”
