Stalybridge Celtic 1, Guiseley 1
Guiseley had to settle for a point as they were pegged back in the second half at Stalybridge in Blue Square Bet North tonight.
The Lions got off to the best possible start when Josh Wilson rifled a free-kick into the bottom corner in the second minute. But the home side created chances after that early strike and probably edged the first half.
Guiseley boss Steve Kittrick made changes to try and wrestle the initiative back but it was the hosts who had the better of the second half and Mitchell Austin equalised as Stalybridge deserved a point at the very least.
Kittrick’s men continue to stutter towards the finishing line but they stay in second place.
Neighbours FC Halifax Town are also limping towards the end of the campaign and they were held to a 1-1 draw as well.
The Shaymen had to come from a goal down after Matt Johnson had given visiting Bishop’s Stortford a 32nd-minute lead.
Liam Needham was the saviour as he netted the leveller five minutes before half-time.
Halifax and Harrogate Town are currently vying for fifth spot – the last play-off place – but Halifax do have games in hand over fourth-placed Altrincham, who Guiseley host on Thursday.
