Some mischievous wag in the office has suggested that Leeds United’s next boss will be appointed as a cost-cutting measure.

Brian McDermott is being hotly tipped to take over the hot-seat vacated late on Monday night by Neil Warnock. After all, he did a great job at lifting Reading into the Premier League – the Holy Grail for the Elland Road lot.

But could it also save them a few bob on training kits?

After all, they won’t have to look too far for another “B McD” tracksuit. Headingley’s dressing room should do it!

Should McDermott get the football job in the same city where his namesake, the former Bull, coaches the Rhinos, it would create a unique situation. Two clubs in two separate sports led by coaches with an identical moniker is something that will surely never happen again.

But pity the poor headline writer of the local paper trying to differentiate between the two on the back page.

And you’ll never hear a Leeds crowd chant: “There’s only one Brian McDermott...”
