Following a run of eight straight victories in all competitions since a surprise defeat at Evo-Stik League outfit Skelmersdale United in the FA Trophy back in December, Guiseley dropped points in Blue Square Bet North in midweek.
The Lions, who are second in the table, were looking to cut the gap on leaders Chester FC when they made the long journey south to take on Gloucester City, but instead of the three points many expected to gather they returned with just one.
That leaves Guiseley 13 points off the summit as they journey to mid-table Vauxhall Motors on Saturday. Steve Kittrick’s men still have three games in hand on Chester but have now lost the initiative.
Up until last Tuesday, Guiseley had it in their own hands to overhaul the leaders.
They could have got within two points of them had they won their games in hand and still had them to play at Nethermoor.
That incentive may have gone but Kittrick insists: “There is a lot of football still to play this season and teams will take points off one another.”
In the final analysis, Tuesday’s point could yet be a decisive one as it was earned away from home and with ten men.
Wayne Brooksby was sent off before half-time at Gloucester but Matt Wilson netted a dramatic late leveller.
The Boshell brothers - Danny and Nicky - remain out of Kittrick’s plans following a disagreement but the Lions’ boss has no new injury concerns so is happy to go with his current group of players.
He also has new signings with striker Phil Marsh and midfielder Jake Lawlor, who both began their careers at Manchester United, having made their debuts in the win over Boston United and then also coming on from the bench at Gloucester.
