Bradford Park Avenue were looking forward to two games in three days but as the weather looks set to put paid to any prospects of picking up points, manager John Deacey told of disrupted training.

He said: “Unless there is a sudden heatwave at Odsal, I can’t see either game going ahead so it looks like a weekend of shopping with the wife.”

Avenue were due two home games in the Blue Square Bet North with tomorrow's visit of Workington and Monday against Vauxhall Motors.

Deacey added: “We had to call training off last Monday and we struggled to get even one session in later in the week because the weather was just so bad. We were up at the ground on Monday but there was a covering of snow on the pitch.

“The players were having trouble making the journey in so we contacted them all and told them not to bother. It affects everything when it’s this bad, not just football.”

The manager and his coaches were forced to make alternative arrangements in preparation for proposed games this weekend and Monday.

Deacey wanted to have full training because he has some players available again following suspension and others in need of work-outs as they regain fitness following injury.

He added: “I spoke to Goals because we sometimes use their facilities but they said they were struggling as well. When it gets to 7.00 or 8.00 at night - the optimum time for semi-pro players to train after their day job - their surfaces are getting slippery.

“They told me that even their 3G pitches won’t stand up to it because the temperatures have been so low, and not just in the evenings.

“I had hoped for a big week on the training pitch and two games because Richard Marshall and Nathan Hotte have served their bans.

"We also have Martin Drury back from injury and Alex Davidson, who did make it for last week’s game but didn’t look fully fit.

“If the games are off at least when we do get back to playing we will have competition for places, which is all I want. It will be the first time for about three months that I’ve had that and it will make it interesting.”
