John Deacey is 90 per cent certain that Bradford Park Avenue game will be off

Avenue hope to host the Cumbrians in Blue Square Bet North but the severe cold snap has been so bad that blanket postponements are expected.

Manager John Deacey is also very doubtful that Monday night’s home game against Vauxhall Motors will get the go-ahead.

The Bradford boss said: “There is absolutely no point in naming a squad because the game is 90 per cent certain to be off.

"We have got the players ready for it because you have to but I have seen the forecasts and I very much doubt if we are going to get either of our games in.

“Tomorrow is meant to be horrendous, with snow to add to the ice and freezing temperatures. so we will just have to see what it looks like for Saturday. One thing is for sure, if it is minus three in Bradford it will be minus five up at Horsfall.

“It seems to get the worst of the weather up there on the hill near Odsal. Last Monday when we were at the ground there was two inches of snow on the pitch.”

Avenue will be chomping at the bit as they look to these two home games to pick up much-needed points after a very punishing schedule.

The Bradford club tumbled from fourth to 11th following a run of seven games against promotion- chasing clubs.

They included leaders Chester FC, third-placed Brackley Town, games against the fourth, six and seventh-placed sides and two derbies against neighbours Guiseley, who are second in the table.

It really was an imposing spell for Avenue, who are new to the division following promotion from the Evo-Stik Premier last season.

Despite that, Deacey’s men are still only two points off fifth spot, which is currently occupied by former manager Lee Sinnott’s Altrincham.

Prior to their testing run, Avenue enjoyed three big victories on the bounce, one of which was a 6-1 thumping of Workington on their own patch.

If Saturday's game does get the go-ahead, then the Cumbrians will no doubt be fuelled by that memory.
