Steeton tightened their grip on top spot in the Premier Division of the West Riding County Amateur League with a 2-0 home win over basement side Overthorpe.

After a goalless first half, during which the visitors more than matched their hosts for effort, Steeton stepped up a gear and two rash tackles on Steeton’s Lee Reilly produced penalties that Reilly converted to give Steeton a seven-point advantage over second-placed Bay Athletic, who were on cup duty.

Salts moved up into fourth after beating their Bradford rivals Campion 3-2 at Saltaire.

Leading 2-0 at the break, thanks to strikes from Andy Howland and Jonny Cunnington, Salts extended their lead to three in the second half through substitute Kyle Berry, before Nathan Woodward and Tom Howard reduced the arrears for Campion.

Tyersal slipped into the bottom half of the table after losing 4-1 at home to Storthes Hall.

Gavin Armitage and Alex Slack bagged braces for the visitors, while Andrew Bailey netted Tyersal’s effort in the first half following Armitage’s opening goal.

Steeton Reserves stay third after drawing 1-1 with Dudley Hill Rangers, while West Horton beat Kirkburton Reserves 2-0 to move into fifth.
