Guiseley 2, Corby Town 1

Guiseley hit back from a goal down as they earned a narrow home win against lowly Corby to cut Chester’s lead at the Blue Square Bet North summit – overnight at least.

The Lions consolidated second place thanks to their victory, which could have been by a much bigger margin as they found the visiting keeper in good form and were also thwarted by the woodwork.

Corby striker Josh Moreman netted the opening goal just after the half-hour mark and Guiseley could not find an equaliser before the break.

James Walshaw finally levelled just after the hour before Josh Wilson, who was denied twice by Corby’s keeper in the first half, struck the winner 11 minutes from time.

Guiseley are now ten points behind Chester with two games in hand, although the leaders play tonight.

Neighbours Halifax were held to a goalless draw at home by Solihull Moors, with substitute Jason St Juste missing a penalty deep into injury time for the Shaymen.

Farsley progressed to the fourth round of the Doodson Sports (Evo-Stik League) Cup with a 3-1 victory over Whitby Town at Throstle Nest.

Ryan Harrison put the home side in front but Steve Stead levelled. Namesake Dave Stead then netted as Farsley went ahead again and an Adam Priestley strike wrapped up a comfortable win.

Thackley bounced back from a weekend Baris Northern Counties East League draw at Glasshoughton with a 3-0 Premier Division win at home to second-bottom Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

Matt Mathers broke the deadlock in the second half before Jordan Missin weighed in with a double.

Tomorrow night sees Albion Sports and Eccleshill United both looking for maximum points from home games in NCE Division One for different reasons.

Albion host basement outfit Selby Town knowing a win could lift them back up to third in the table.

Eccleshill dropped to third from bottom, just above the relegation zone, with a loss at the weekend and they are at home to fellow strugglers Dinnington Town.
