Silsden 4, Maine Road 2
Former Silsden managers Andy Geary and Paul Schofield worked their magic to dramatic effect after being placed in temporary charge at Keighley Road.
The partnership’s first game in control following the departure of Chris Reape ended with a home victory over North West Counties League Premier Division leaders Maine Road.
The Mancunians were top of the pile following 11 league wins on the trot, while the Cobbydalers were trying to snap out of a run of seven straight defeats.
It was a far more enthralling contest than the statistics alluded to and Silsden were good value for their win.
Tom Bailey fired the visitors in front as early as the third minute but when a shot from Scott Price, the former Eccleshill United midfielder making his Silsden debut, was palmed for a corner in the 28th minute, Danny Husband netted an equaliser following the flag kick.
The visitors edged back in front after the interval but Chris Wademan soon levelled and late goals by Mike Garrod and Kevin Ryan saw the home side to a much-needed victory.
Cobbydalers spokesman Jim Rosser said: “Andy Geary and Paul Schofield were over the moon at the end. It was a real fillip.
“It was just like the old days. It was a game that had everything and it was end to end.”
