Ricky Ravenhill column: Forget the Aston Villa game next week, we’re not looking beyond Barnet.
Like the last round, we want to go into Tuesday flying high on the back of the right result on Saturday.
It will make it all the more enjoyable if we’ve got the three points to take into the cup.
Barnet are turning the corner and we won’t take them lightly after their win over Gillingham last week. They certainly aren’t the team we beat at the start of the season and, of course, they’ve got Edgar Davids.
When you’re younger watching TV and seeing him playing for the likes of Milan and Holland, you never imagine you’d come up against him one day.
But that’s what football throws at you. It gives you opportunities to go out and play against famous people like that.
We’ve also got the famous Underhill slope to deal with. It is bad but I think a lot of that is in the mind.
You look at the stand at the far side and it’s deceiving. Because of the way it is so much bigger at one end than the other, it makes you feel you’re running up a really steep hill.
It’s just another hurdle you’ve got to deal with in League Two with the smaller stadiums and tough pitches like the one at Morecambe. It’s another different challenge that we’ll be ready for.
We’ve been there before and got a good result last season so hopefully we can get the win again.
I thought we stuck to the game plan perfectly at Morecambe and it was a good away performance. If we’d stuck that chance away at the end it would have been the perfect result but it didn’t quite happen.
I’ve obviously had to be patient and wait my turn to play again. The lads have been doing a great job but we’d had a couple of disappointing performances and the gaffer felt it was right to freshen things up a little bit.
There are so many games and we’ve got good players waiting for their chance like Ritchie Jones and Alan Connell. It’s important for those like myself to be ready to step back in and do the job right.
